1. O Banh Mi

O Banh Mi

The food here is absolutely delicious, with each sandwich crafted to perfection. I tried the steak sandwich, and it was a perfect composition of flavors. The Vietnamese coffee they serve is hands down the best coffee I’ve had in years.

Watching the cook assemble the sandwiches is like witnessing an artist at work. I usually get the sardine sandwich along with either the pork or chicken, all of which are made fresh to order. They include a small au jus of the specific Banh Mi you order, which is a lovely touch. ?

The place is small with limited seating, but it packs big flavors. The roast pork sandwich is a must-try and absolutely ?. Even though the service can be a bit slow, with about a 20-minute wait, it’s all worth it because the sandwiches are made by a single person who ensures quality over speed. Parking can be challenging since it’s located right on Hyperion, so grab a spot if you see one.

The staff is incredibly friendly and makes the experience even better. I’ve enjoyed chatting with them, and on one occasion, they let my boyfriend ring up our order on their charming old-timey cash register! There’s seating both inside and outside, and though it’s not abundant, I’ve never had an issue finding a spot. I highly recommend O Banh Mi for their super fresh sandwiches and welcoming atmosphere.

2. Bé Ù – Vietnamese Street Food & Comfort Food

Bé Ù - Vietnamese Street Food & Comfort Food

Bé Ù is an amazing little spot that has quickly become my favorite for Vietnamese street food. From the moment you arrive, the welcoming staff makes you feel right at home. The menu is straightforward and easy to navigate, featuring both classic and innovative dishes. We tried a variety of items, including the pork Banh mi, Rau Ma (blended leaf drink), and my absolute favorite, the caramelized pork & egg.

Despite being a take-out only spot with no dine-in options, the quality and flavor of the food more than make up for it. The pork Banh mi is a must-try, and their Vietnamese coffee is simply divine. Parking can be a bit tricky, and there’s only a window to place orders, but these minor inconveniences are easily overlooked once you taste the food. Ordering ahead is a great option to ensure a smooth experience.

I once called in a large order, and the staff handled it flawlessly. The Banh mi sandwiches were perfectly balanced, and the vegan options were a hit with everyone.

I am a huge fan of this lovely restaurant. The owner is diligent, dynamic, and incredibly sweet. Bé Ù stands out not just for its delicious food but also for its eco-friendly practices. They serve their fresh, healthy dishes in sustainable packaging and are committed to recycling and composting. The summer rolls and the noodle bowl with lemongrass pork are highly recommended. Keto and vegan options are available without compromising on flavor.

Thank you, Bé Ù, for providing such a delightful dining experience. I will definitely be coming back!

3. My Dung Sandwich Shop

My Dung Sandwich Shop

My Dung Sandwich Shop offers an excellent value with their Vietnamese sandwiches, priced at just $6. This time, I tried the #4, and it was a delightful experience. The bread was crisp and flaky on the outside, yet soft and pillowy on the inside. The flavors were fresh, and the jalapeno added just the right amount of spice.

While the service might not be the fastest, it’s definitely worth the short wait. The atmosphere might be a bit rundown, but it has a cozy, welcoming feel. I often pass by this place on my way to work and finally decided to give it a try. I’m glad I did because their grilled chicken Banh mi is fantastic. I’ve tried other spots in Chinatown, but this place stands out for its quality.

The staff is friendly and efficient, making the experience even better. I ordered the #1 along with an iced coffee. If you’ve never had Vietnamese iced coffee, be prepared for its strong flavor—perfect for coffee lovers like me. Overall, My Dung Sandwich Shop serves the best Banh mi in the area, and I highly recommend it. I’ll definitely be coming back for more. You won’t be disappointed!

4. Nong Lá Vietnamese Cafe

Nong Lá Vietnamese Cafe

Nong Lá Vietnamese Cafe is an absolute gem! The Banh mi here is incredibly delicious and reasonably priced, and the interior is both beautiful and comfortable.

The service is friendly and attentive, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. The marinated pork Banh mi is phenomenal—words can’t even begin to describe how good it is. I often wake up craving something hearty yet fresh, and this place serves exactly that. I will definitely be coming back again and again.

The food at Nong Lá is consistently great, and so is the service. The Banh mi sandwiches are top-notch, as are many of the appetizers. Although I’m not usually a soup person, the Pho here is exceptional and worth trying.

As someone who is very particular about Vietnamese food, especially grilled pork Banh mi sandwiches, I can confidently say that this place has it all. The food is outstanding, and the service is both good and fast. I highly recommend their Pho and Banh mi.

Nong Lá is one of my favorite places to get Vietnamese food. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the staff is always helpful and friendly. The prices are fair for the quality you receive, and the food is simply stunning. The Banh mi, in particular, is one of my absolute favorites.

5. Bánh Mì Mỹ Tho

Bánh Mì Mỹ Tho

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this place yet—it’s one of my absolute favorite Banh mi spots! Despite the super long lines, the experience is always worth it. There’s plenty of parking, but I highly recommend ordering ahead. Although you still have to stand in the same line, it saves you the wait for your food to be made.

The prices are reasonable, and the sandwiches and spring rolls are incredibly good! My usual order is the #8 grilled pork sandwich and the pork spring rolls, which are especially delicious with the accompanying sauce. The #2 is also a great choice, fully loaded with goodies and just as amazing as I remembered.

Bánh Mì Mỹ Tho is a tiny, cramped place with no dine-in options—everything is to-go. Despite this, the food is so irresistible that I often don’t make it out of the parking lot before digging in. Not to stir up any competition with my friends in Westminster, but the sandwiches here are as good as any Banh mi I’ve ever had.

If you’re in the mood for some snacks or dessert, they have those too. The long lines and carryout-only situation might be a bit of a hassle, but the quality and flavor of the food make it all worthwhile. I’ll definitely be back for more!

6. Lokal Sandwich Shop

Lokal Sandwich Shop

They offer a variety of sandwiches, and while some are better than others, they’re all quite enjoyable. Although I don’t drink coffee or smoothies, they seem to be popular with other customers. The staff is cheerful, service is fast, and they have both indoor and outdoor seating.

One of my top picks is the Lokal Dac Biet Banh Mi (Old Skool) paired with their milk tea with boba. The milk tea boba is as good as what you’d get from a dedicated boba shop. I prefer it less sweet and with less ice, and it always hits the spot. There are two types of Dac Biet Banh mi, one with more toppings like pork floss and extra meat, and a simpler version. Be sure to read the description before ordering to get exactly what you want. The chicken Banh mi is also quite good.

Most Banh mi here come with mayo, pate, or both, which aren’t always listed on delivery apps. They do allow modifications, so be sure to specify your preferences either in person or in the online order text box.

Overall, Lokal Sandwich Shop offers consistently tasty and satisfying food. I haven’t tried their other items like pancakes or other sandwiches because the Banh mi is just too good to pass up.

7. Than Huu Sandwich

Than Huu Sandwich

Than Huu Sandwich is an exceptional spot for Banh Mi in Chinatown. Their Banh Mi sandwiches are perfect, with freshly baked baguettes and simple, fresh ingredients. The menu is straightforward with just two main items: Banh Mi and noodle soup, though they also offer a variety of drinks and teas.

The service here is incredibly kind, friendly, and gracious. The atmosphere is unique, with little stools and tables set up in the middle of an Asian bazaar, adding to the charm of the experience.

Every time I’m in the area, I make it a point to stop by. Their Banh Mi and noodle soups are consistently delicious, and they also serve great boba. One of my favorite treats here is the che ba mau, which is simply amazing. The staff always greet you with kindness and a smile.

I’m giving Than Huu a 5-star rating because they truly have the best and most delicious Banh Mi sandwiches in the Chinatown district. The bread is baked to perfection, and their unique pastry sauce adds a delightful flavor to the sandwiches. You definitely won’t be disappointed.

8. My Lai Kitchen – Venice

My Lai Kitchen - Venice

My Lai Kitchen – Venice offers the best Banh Mi on the west side. The sandwiches are flavorful, great value for money, and incredibly fresh. I had the pork Banh Mi, and it was insanely tasty.

The back patio provides a perfect setting for casual, chilled dining. Ordering online and picking up was super easy, which made my first visit here even better. We ordered two Banh Mi, two bowls, and two drinks. The bread was very crispy and crunchy, all the veggies were super fresh, and the meats were seasoned to perfection. We absolutely loved everything we got today!

One minor issue was that the bread tasted a bit old on one occasion, which was a shame because the ingredients in the Banh Mi were superb. Despite this, the rest of the items we ordered were great. The spring roll was bomb, and the egg rolls were good too.

I also appreciated the friendly staff who greeted us as we came in. The establishment looked very clean, and I look forward to visiting again whenever the craving kicks in. Overall, My Lai Kitchen – Venice delivers amazing food and a delightful dining experience.
